Sophie Lynn-Carney

Sophie Lynn-Carney is a multi-disciplinary artist with a focus on sculpture, poetry and sound work, and drawing. Within her sculptural practice she ranges from the mediums of glass, ceramics, and repurposed found objects. She sells prints of her artwork and does commissions in both ceramics and drawings.
Her practice revolves around the experience of being neurodivergent and explores the emotions that experience can bring. She demonstrates this experience through atmosphere and colour – blue being highly significant to her practice. This is due to her belief that it illustrates many different emotional states – from melancholia and isolation to peace and acceptance. Within her work she uses the key motif of hearts, each separate heart sculpture representing different emotions. She then pairs her sculptures alongside her sound work, giving the sculptures voices to their emotions, and personifying them to give empathy to these feelings from a place of distance, away from human bias.

Her drawings are drawn lightly, with little colour to illustrate a delicate atmosphere, delicacy being an important aspect to her practice. Within her drawings she uses a key image to focus on, personifying them with her poems, which the images are first drawn from.
